5th Annual DMS Invitational Surf – Fishing Tournament

October 8 and 9, 2011

 

The Delaware Mobile Surf-fishermen, Inc (DMS) invites you to join up to 350 of your fellow anglers at the best fall surf fishing Tournament in the state of Delaware! For 2011, the Tournament returns to Cape Henlopen State Park, previously the site of our family tournament.  Highlights include:

 

  • Over $3500 in total cash prizes
  • Cash and trophies to top 4 finishers in overall and woman’s divisions
  • Trophies and prizes to top 3 finishers in Youth Division (15 years of age and under)
  • Optional Bluefish Calcutta for largest bluefish scored
  • Post-Tournament meal prior to Award Ceremony open to all participants and families

 

The DMS Invitational is a family friendly event. Entry is $30 per adult (16 and older), with an additional $10 for the Bluefish Calcutta. Youth entry fee is $10.

 

Complete the enclosed entry application and return with the appropriate funds (check or money order) payable to DMS. Please review the awards, fishing locations and rules that are enclosed with this invitation.  Please include a legible e-mail address on your entry in order that we can confirm the receipt of your entry.  Former participants must have entries postmarked by September 9, 2011.  All entries must be postmarked by October 1, 2011. Check the DMS Website, www.dmsclub.org, periodically for Tournament updates.

 

Post entries will be accepted on Friday October 7, between 12 noon and 8 PM at Tournament Headquarters located the Officer’s Club in Cape Henlopen State Park.  Mail your completed (and signed) application to:

Tournament Rules

5th Annual DMS Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament

October 8 & 9, 2011

 

Tournament Headquarters: Officers Quarters, Cape Henlopen. State Park, Lewes, DE

 

Fishing area: All surf-fishing areas of Cape Henlopen State Park except where closed.  OSV crossings: Cape Point, Navy Crossing, Herring Point, Gordons Pond. Parking is available for walk-ons at the radar station.  The bathing beach area is NOT included.    Signs will be posted at ends of the fishing area.  Please, do not cross the dune other than at authorized crossings!  Check Park regulations for 24 hour beach access points.

 

Fishing times: Saturday, October 8: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  Sunday, October 9: 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

 

Prizes: (based on a minimum of 200 entrants. If less than 200 entrants, cash amounts will be adjusted.)

Largest fish (any score-able species) of the Tournament - $750.00

1st Place Points: $1000.00 and trophy;           2nd Place Points:  $750.00 and trophy

3rd Place Points:  $500.00 and trophy             4th Place Points:  $250.00

5th through ? – Prizes

 

Woman’s Division: Bonus prizes to be awarded to female anglers.  Winners are also eligible for prizes listed above.

1st Place Points:  $300.00 and trophy              2nd Place Points:  $225.00 and trophy

3rd Place Points:  $150.00 and trophy             4th Place Points:  $100.00

 

N.B.: Entrants aged 16 through 17 MUST have a parent or guardian signature to be eligible for cash prizes!

 

Youth Division (15 years of age and under): 1st, 2nd and 3rd place points: trophy and prize

 

Calcutta: Largest bluefish.  $10 entry fee required.  All money paid back to winner.

 

Registration:  Limited to the first 350 entries.  Entries by mail or at check-in will be accepted only if the 350 angler limit has not been reached.  Registration fees are refundable ONLY IF the Tournament is canceled for any reason.

 

Check-in:  All entrants must check in at Tournament Headquarters to pick up their entry packet.  Check-in is open Friday, October 7, 2011 from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 PM, and Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 5:30 AM to 7:00 AM.

 

Awards: Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 2:30 PM.  Awards will be presented at Tournament Headquarters.

 

NO GAFFS, NO CAST NETS, NO CHUM POTS NO FLEA RAKES DURING TOURNAMENT HOURS.  UNSPORTSMAN-LIKE CONDUCT WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION.  IF IT IS NOT COVERED IN THE RULES, DON’T DO IT!

 

Rules: Must be registered.   No more than 2 rods, each equipped with not more than 2 hooks, may be fished at one time.  Artificial lures and baits are permitted as manufactured.  No limits on line type, sinkers or baits.  No fishing other than in designated areas and during Tournament hours.  Anglers must bait, cast and retrieve their own lines.   Balloon rigs and yaks are prohibited.  All fish must be caught on hook and line and beached.  Anglers must remove their own fish.  Children may be assisted in un-hooking fish.  Under-sized fish should be released alive.  All anglers must be in compliance with Delaware fishing license regulations; we are not able to sell a fishing license!  Licenses are available at most tackle shops.  All OSV must display a Delaware Surf Fishing Permit and carry required equipment.  A 3-day Permit will be available at Tournament Headquarters for an additional fee.

 

Scoring:  We encourage the live release of all fish. Scoring fish species, minimum sizes and point values TBA.  Fish are scored to the entrant who catches them.  Judges will be available to score fish.  Winners determined by total points accumulated.  Head Judge will resolve all disputes.  Fish will be measured to the nearest ¼ inch, rounded down.  Points are scored for total length of fish (snout to tail), one point per full inch rounded down.  No partial points.  One additional point awarded for a witnessed (by a judge) live release. Fish to be kept will have a section of tail removed.  Tie-breaker for most points:  1st - most fish; 2nd- largest fish.  If still tied, prize money will be divided. Each angler is responsible for their score sheet.  Score sheets must be turned in no later than 30 minutes after close of fishing.  Score sheets turned in late will NOT count!  Saturday score sheets turned in on Sunday will NOT count!

 

If it is not covered in the rules, don’t do it!
