17th ANNUAL DMS INVITATIONAL SURF-FISHING TOURNAMENT The 17th Annual DMS Invitational was held October 6-8, 2023. There were 124 anglers with 18 women and 5 youth. The count was down this year, probably due to the weather forecast. Still, there were fish caught. 23 anglers caught fish for a total of 39 fish. All anglers who caught a fish were awarded prizes. Here’s the breakdown: Youth: 1 st Jace Griffith - 17 points/ 4 fish 2 nd Justin Toomey - 2 points/2 fish 3 rd Aiden Sparano – 1 point/1 fish All youth anglers age 15 and younger received a rod donated by Rick’s Bait and Tackle. They also got a fishing backpack with fishing gear in it. Women: 1 st Meg Vinson 18 points/ 1 fish – a 17 inch flounder This also won largest fish 2 nd Kelsey Cycyk 13 points/ 1 fish Overall: 1 st Brian Hill (Fish Hoggs) 61 points/5 fish -High Hooker! 2 nd Scott Aiken Jr. 37 points/3 fish 3 rd Lloyd Meeks 36 points/3 fish Brian and Lloyd caught all their fish on Saturday. Kingfish Calcutta The pot for this Calcutta was divided between Chris Linton and Scott Aiken for winning 12.5 inch fish. Bluefish Calcutta Scott Foltz caught the winning fish – a 13 inch blue. Jace Griffith caught a 13.5 inch blue and would have won except he is a minor, and by tournament rules cannot be awarded a cash prize. Joe Moore (One More Cast/Buxton NC) generously donated a reel which was given to Jace. Largest Fish Christopher Barnard came in for the Largest Fish prize with a 17.5 inch flounder
